For .22 caliber rimfire and centerfire bores, you may find it beneficial to use a smaller diameter rod/jag combination for a better fit in the barrel.
.22 caliber jags tend to be tight fitting in .22 cal centerfire bores. Many rod/jag manufacturers tend to make their .22 caliber centerfire rods for a range of diameters, mostly .22 to .26 caliber. Thus, the jags are often manufactured to a diameter that ends up being just barely enough to fit into a .22 caliber centerfire bore. A .20 caliber jag tends to slide better in a .22 caliber barrel, while still retaining a snug fit for the patch against the bore surface.
This is also noticable with .20 caliber jags (which are often built for .20 caliber to .22 caliber rimfire) in .22 caliber rimfire bore, and thus, a .17 caliber rod/jag will often result in a better fit. |
