The West End Gun Club holds a monthly NRA High Power Rifle match on the third Sunday of each month. Shooting usually begins at 0800, with sign-up starting at or before 0730. During the Summer months, shooting may start earlier in order to finish the match before the peak temperatures of the day. Match entry fee is $15.
This match follows the 800 point National Match Course of fire:
20 rounds (+2 sighters) - Slow fire standing
20 rounds (+2 sighters) - Rapid fire kneeling or sitting
20 rounds (+2 sighters) - Rapid fire prone
20 rounds (+2 sighters) - Slow fire prone
Standing and kneeling/sitting are shot at 200 yards, rapid prone at 300 yards, and slow fire prone at 550 yards (as opposed to 600).
This event is not NRA approved or registered, and therefore scores are not reported to the NRA for classification purposes. Also, this match is not shot for any types of awards. Thus, the mood of this match is very informal and many shoot this match for fun and practice. This is a highly recommended venue for beginning Across the Course shooters who want some actual trigger time in an NRA High Power Rifle style event.
Note: The event is contigent on weather. Rain will usually cancel the match, as well as high winds. Check your favorite Internet weather report websites for the weather forecast regarding the Highland/Upland area. This will give you a good indication of how the weather will be in the canyon where the WEGC facility is located.
Any and all questions including event start times should be sent to the match coordinator, Charles Guzman.
